Andrew McIntosh, cello
Andrew McIntosh has been Principal Cellist of the Windsor Symphony Orchestra since 1997. During that time he has also been active as a freelance cellist in Ontario and southern Michigan, playing regularly with the Canadian Opera Company and Esprit Orchestras in Toronto, as well as the Detroit Symphony and Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestras in Detroit. In 2004, he became a permanent member of the National Ballet of Canada Orchestra, performing with their seasons in Toronto and joining them for their Western Canada tours and performances in New York City. In 2013 he had the fortune of returning to New York, performing with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for Carnegie Hall’s “Spring for Music” Festival. In the summers he performs in the Lancaster Festival (Ohio) and works on his 100 year old houses.
Andrew obtained a Bachelor of Music degree from McGill University studying with Michael Kilburn, and completed a Masters of Music degree from The Cleveland Institute of Music under the direction of Allan Harris. Other teachers include Janos Starker and Walter Joachim. He lives in Windsor, Ontario with his wife, harpist Amy Ley and their two children Dylan and Fiona.
