Marty Gervais

Marty Gervais is a teacher, journalist, historian, photographer and writer whose historical works have been Canadian bestsellers. In 1998, Gervais received the prestigious Harbourfront Festival Prize for his work in advancing the careers of other writers. His own book The Rumrunners reached the top 10 in the bestsellers for non-fiction in Canada, and was a Canadian bestseller. Marty Gervais has also taught numerous courses in English Literature, Creative writing and journalism. With his journalism, he has interviewed a wide assortment of figures from Mother Teresa and Muhammad Ali to Arthur Miller and Jimmy Carter. His journalism also  has taken him all over the world, from covering the war in Iraq and Holy Week in Jerusalem to championship boxing in Bosnia and Argentina. His column My Town, published in The Windsor Star, won him numerous journalism awards, and an honourary Doctor of Laws from Assumption University. In 2012, Gervais was named Windsor’s first poet laureate. He also received the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.
