CELLIST PETER WIEBE joined the Windsor Symphony Orchestra as a member of its core in 1987.
Active as a cello teacher, Wiebe has taught the strings class at Walkerville Centre for the Creative Arts, and has been an instructor and conductor at Concertare Musicale and Huckleberry Music Camps. He has arranged or composed over 200 pieces for orchestra and chamber ensembles in the Windsor Symphony. His arrangements have also been played by several symphony orchestras including Cincinnati, Detroit, Winnipeg, and Victoria.
In 2005, Wiebe was named the Windsor Symphony’s assistant conductor and director of the Windsor Symphony Youth Orchestra (WSYO). In that year he also became the director of the Windsor Community Orchestra. He has conducted concerts in the Windsor Symphony’s Bach and Beyond, Intimate Classics, Masterworks, Pops, Jeans ‘n’ Classics, Education, and Community Series. Wiebe also has designed and programmed the WSO’s successful Peanut Butter ‘n’ Jam series for young children, and its Music for Health program for seniors. He was named associate conductor of the WSO in 2016. Wiebe and his wife Ruth reside in Windsor, and along with their six children are all active musicians.
